BPay Casinos

Written by John Gold. Last updated:

BPay is gaining momentum and becoming more popular in Australia. It does not impose limits on transfers, nor does it charge fees (but a casino can do so). This is a reliable and convenient method, but still has its drawbacks that we will talk about today.

- Supports more than 150 banks
- BPAY does not require any fees
- The average minimum deposit is $10
- BPAY doesn’t guarantee instant deposits

BPAY Overview

BPAY was launched in 1997 by several Australian banks, including New Zealand and Australia Banking Group, Westpac Banking Corporation, and Commonwealth Bank. BPAY is mainly engaged in bill payments using mobile phones, but over time, BPAY has expanded its capabilities and entered the online gambling market. Since then, BPay has been supporting deposits at Australian online casinos.

BPAY provides a wide range of services, including BPAY view, introduced in 2002 to allow users to receive and make payments online. It also operates the Osko system, introduced in 2018 to facilitate payments between financial institutions. Every month, 30 million bills are paid through BPAY, totalling more than A$2 billion.

A few words about using BPAY. First of all, you have to register as a payer on the website (it does not take much time). The operating system then provides you with a payer number. Once accounts are registered, they receive an indication of their control number, which is necessary when making transactions.

Remember: whether you are receiving or sending payments online, by phone or even via mobile banking, you will need the biller's code, control number and payment amount to make payments. In most cases, there are no fees, but sometimes there are additional fees that your bank may require.

Believe it or not, making a deposit with BPAY is easy:

  2. Go to the Cashier/Deposit/Bank section.
  3. Choose BPAY from all available deposit options.
  4. Choose your bank and the amount you want to deposit.
  5. Go to BPAY.com.au and you will be provided with your biller code and a unique customer reference number (CRN).
  6. You will be automatically redirected to your bank's eBanking page.
  7. Log in to your eBanking account, insert the biller code and CRN along with the amount.
  8. Confirm the deposit with BPAY Casino

But what about withdrawals? BPAY cannot be used to withdraw funds from online casinos, but you can use another payment methods.

BPAY Deposit Times and Fees

BPAY does not charge extra fees when used to fund an account on an online casino platform. However, keep in mind that the casino may have its own policy, which may include a processing fee. Therefore, it is extremely important to check this information in the Terms & Conditions section in the footer of the site before making a deposit.

BPAY, as a deposit method, is not instant and usually takes between 1 and 2 business days, but the exact time may differ depending on how long the casino you are playing at takes to process payments.

A minimum deposit of AU$10 applies across multiple casinos, but in some cases, it may be higher as set by the casino. You should also note that BPAY payment method can only be used to make deposits and, at the moment, does not provide casino withdrawals, but you should be able to find other withdrawal options at the casino.

Security with BPAY

BPAY works with over 150 banks, including National Australia Bank, and has access to resources most startups do not have. They have used the resources and taken several measures to keep their users' financial information safe and secure. The steps they have taken include the following:

  • It uses hypertext transfer protocol secure and 128-bit SSL encryption to provide a secure connection between its servers and users and prevent unauthorized access
  • Abides by all Australian payment systems regulation Act of 1998
  • BPAY employs the CRM/BIller code combo, ensuring transactions only happen with the approval of online casino players

Extra Features

BPAY's available at more than 150 banks and financial joints, with over 60,000 businesses using it as a payment option.

When you first use your BPAY punter code in online banking, your deets are saved for future payments. You can also set up regular payments, including daily, weekly or monthly, up to 2 years in advance.

BPAY, OSKO and PayID work through mobile or online banking, with BPAY letting you pay bills safe as houses. OSKO enables instant transfers between member banks, while PayID lets you use an email address or mobile number as a payment address instead of an account number. PayID and BPAY tap into the infrastructure of new payment platforms to facilitate real-time, inter-bank transfers between Aussie financial institutions. They also allow customers to make payments online via their mobile banking apps.

BPAY View is a new feature added to the BPAY service. The view option now lets users get a clear picture of all the bills they've paid with it. So punters can track everything they've been billed for, including tax payments.

Player Experiences & Our Verdict

Most punters using BPAY to top up their accounts are pretty stoked with the service. Our crew has come across heaps of positive reviews about its security and convenience, which makes sense given BPAY partners with government-owned banks. The players are also happy there's no fees from BPAY (but remember the casinos themselves may still charge fees).

However, there are some negative reviews out there too. Mainly the lack of cash out options, and the fact that it can take up to 2 days for deposits to hit your account. Punters have also noticed BPAY doesn't have decent comms channels for reaching support, which we can confirm. There's no phone number or live chat. Just a contact form, which seems outdated in this day and age. But overall, most still rate BPAY as a solid, secure payment method for Aussie players.

FAQ

No, BPAY does not charge any fees. However, keep in mind that in most cases, it is the casino that may charge fees.
With BPAY you can set up automatic deposits to top up your betting balance. Good for regular punters who play the same online casinos. Lets you easily spread out deposits instead of big lump sums. Can help manage your bankroll. But don't go overboard - set limits you can afford.
No, you do not need an account. Your eBanking account takes care of everything.
BPAY can not be used as a withdrawal option. As it is a payment gateway, it cannot store money. It can only be used as a security tool when depositing at BPAY online casinos.
BPAY and PayID use the same payment network. BPAY for bills. PayID for sending directly to people. Both fast and secure. Good for online casino deposits.
